chapter 219, entitled an Act to Incorporate the Monumental
Fire Insurance Company of Baltimore, and to change the

name of said corporation and enlarge its powers.

Which was read the first time and referred to the Com-
mittee on Corporations.

The President laid before the Senate a communication from

the Clerk to the County Commissioners of Carroll county, in
response to an order of the Senate, enclosing a statement of
the amount of tax derived from mortgages in said county,
for 1869.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance.

Mr. Welch presented the petition of 300 citizens of Kent

county, praying the passage of a law incorporating a rail-
road from Salisbury to Swann Point.

Which was read and referred to the Senators from the
eastern Shore counties,

Mr. Malone presented the petition of E.M. Waller and
200 other citizens of Wicomico and Dorchester counties,

asking the passage of a law incorporating a railroad from
Salisbury to some point on the Chesapeake Bay opposite the

City of Baltimore.

Which was read and referred to the Senators from the
eastern Shore counties

Mr. Fields presented the petition of F. Gary and 200

other citizens of Caroline and Dorchester counties, asking
the passage of a law incorporating a railroad from Salisbury
to some point in Kent county opposite the City of Baltimore.

Which was read and referred to the Senators from the
Eastern Shore counties.

The President laid before the Senate the Report of the
Board of Beneficence of St. John's Independent Methodist
Protestant Church of Baltimore.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpo-
rations.
On motion by Mr. Browne,

Leave of absence was granted to L. W. Selby, Assistant
Doorkeeper, from Friday evening until Monday next.

On motion by Mr. Denson, it was

Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal of the Sen-
ate, that if the undersigned had been present when the vote
was taken upon the Joint Resolutions rejecting the proposed
Fifteenth Amendment of the Constitution of the United
States, he would have voted in the affirmative.
