The question being the adoption of the unfavorable report
of the Committee on Finance on the House Joint Resolu-
tions in reference to the claim of the State against the Bal-
timore and Ohio Railroad Company.
Mr. Compton moved to lay said report on the table.
Mr. Compton withdrew his motion.
On motion by Mr. Compton,

The further consideration of said report was postponed
until to-morrow, at 12 o'clock.

On motion by Mr. Maddox,
The Senate adjourned.

WEDNESDAY, March 2,1870.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Miller.
Present at roll call the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Biggs, Browne, Carroll, Earle, Fields,
Hyland, Maddox, Malone, Miller, Parker, Snyder, Stephen-
son, Timmons, Welch, Wilson—16.

The Journal of yesterday was read and approved.

The President laid before the Senate the following com-
munication :

OFFICE BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS,

Baltimore, March 1,1870.
To the Hon. Barnes Compton,
President of the Senate:

SIR:—It is our painful duty, and it is also with unaffected
sorrow and regret, that we communicate to you, and through
you to the Senate of Maryland, an announcement of the death
of our esteemed colleague, Lefevre Jarrett, Esq., President
of the Board of Police Commissioners for Baltimore city,
which occurred suddenly on Friday last. at twenty minutes
before nine o'clock, P. M.
