On motion by Mr. Fields,

The Senate was called, and the Sergeant-at-Arms was di-
rected to wait upon absent Senators and inform them that
their attendance was required in the Senate Chamber.

There being no quorum present,
On motion by Mr. Earle,
The Senate adjourned.

TUESDAY, March 1,1870.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Miller.
Present at roll call the following Senators:

Messrs. President, Browne, Carroll, Earle, Fields, Henkle,
Henry, Hyland, Jump, Maddox, Malone, Parker, Sellman,
Snyder, Stephenson, Timmons, Welch—17.

The Journal of yesterday was read and approved.

The President laid before the Senate a communication from
the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel county, in re-
sponse to an order of the Senate, enclosing a statement of the
amount of taxes derived from mortgages in said county for
1869.

Also,

Similar communications from the Clerks to the County
Commissioners of Dorchester and Montgomery counties, and
the City Collector of Baltimore city,

Which were severally read and referred to the Committee
on Finance.

Mr. Snyder presented the memorial of Philip C. Friese, of
Baltimore, suggesting the adoption by the Legislature of the
substance of certain propositions contained in the preamble
and resolutions as set forth in said memorial, for the purpose
of calling attention of all the States to the historical facts set
forth in the first and second of said propositions.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Federal
Relations.

Mr. Earle presented the memorial of sundry citizens of
Queen Anne's county, praying the passage of an Act to pre-
vent the erection of Gates on the Public Roads of said county..
