230 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 17,

THURSDAY, February 17,1870.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment,
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Hildt.
Present at roll call the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Biggs, Browne, Carroll, Denson, Earle,
Fields, Grove, Henkle, Jump, Kimmel, Maddox, Malone,
Miller, Parker, Sellman, Snyder, Spates, Timmons, Welch,
20.

The Journal of yesterday was read and approved.

Mr. Jump presented the petition of James H. Ridgway and
31 other citizens, praying the moving of the place of voting
in the Chapel district from Chapel to Cordova, in said dis-
trict.

Which was read and referred to the Senators from Talbot,
Caroline and Queen Anne's.

On motion by Mr. Maddox,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill to exempt from State and municipal taxation the
real and personal property of the Improved Order of Red
Men, in the City of Baltimore.

On motion by Mr. Maddox,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill to pay O. G. Hayden, Inspector General of Grain,
$347.29 out of the fund credited to the Grain Office of the
State.

On motion by Mr. Jump, it was

Ordered, That the Senator from Frederick have leave of
absence until Wednesday next.

On motion by Mr. Jump, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that R. V. Page,
Journal Clerk, is absent on account of sickness.

On motion by Mr. Biggs, it was

Ordered, That the Senator from Talbot have leave of ab-
sence until Wednesday next.

On motion by Mr. Biggs, it was

Ordered, That E. Carmack have leave of absence until
Wednesday next, to enable him to visit his family.
