1870.] OF THE SENATE, 169

The Senate bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Potomac
and Piedmont Coal and Rail Road Company,

Was read the second time and ordered to be engrossed for a
third reading.

The Senate bill entitled an Act to provide a new Code of
the statute laws of the State, and to appropriate a sum of
money for that purpose,

Was read the second time, and ordered to be engrossed
for a third reading.

The hour leaving arrived for taking up the orders of the day,

The President announced the bill entitled an Act to extend
the charter of the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad.

Mr. Carroll moved that the bill be postponed for one week.
Mr. Denson called for the yeas and nays.
On the question being put,
It was determined in the negative.

Mr. Compton submitted the following amendment :

Amend section 2, by inserting in line 5, between the word
"five," and then the following: or of that portion of the
main-stem of said road between the point of its junction with
the branch road to Washington and the Potomac river, shall
not be completed at the expiration of twelve months from the
date of the running of the trains for the transportation of
freight and passengers between the cities of Baltimore and
Washington.

Which was adopted.

The section as amended, was then adopted.
