lished, at or near the county seat of each county of this
State, lines not exceeding sixty perches in length, correspond-
ing with the true meridians of such places, and to determine
at the same time the geographical latitude and longitude
of the station occupied by the instrument employed in such
operation.
On motion by Mr. Timmons, it was

Ordered, That a Select Committee of three be appointed
to take into consideration the propriety of repealing the
law compelling the publication of the General Laws in one
newspaper in each county of the State, and two in the City
of Baltimore.

The President appointed as said Committee Senators Tim-
mons, Biggs and Hyland.

On motion by Mr. Malone,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill to release the securities of Thomas H. Williams,
late Deputy Sheriff of Somerset county.
On motion by Mr. Clarke, it was

Ordered, That Mr. Valdenar, the page of the Senate, have
leave of absence from Saturday morning, the 12th, to Tues-
day morning, the 15th of February, to enable him to visit
his home.

The Clerk of the House of Delegates delivered the follow-
ing message:
BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

February 8,1870.
Gentlemen of the Senate :

We propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable Body,
the appointment of a Joint Committee of Conference upon
the bill to change the name of the Mutual Coal Company of
Allegany county to that of the Maryland Coal Company;
and to confirm the decree of the Circuit Court of Allegany
county changing said name.

We have named on the part of this House, as members of
said Committee, Messrs. Kean, Merrick and Ehlen.
