166 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [J»u. 27,
Mr. Watkins, Chairman of a Select Committee, submitted
the following
REPORT.
To the Speaker and Members
of the House of Delegates.
The Committee to whom was referred the order to enquire
into the necessity of naming another Page, and to name such
officer, have, according to order, had the same under consid-
eration, and beg leave to report through their Chairman, the
following order:
Ordered, That Jos. H. Cameron, of Cecil county, be declar-
ed a Page of this house, his per diem to be paid from the date
of his qualifying; that the permanent officers of this House
report themselves to the Chief Clerk each morning of the ses-
sion, and their attendance be required during its sittings.
G. M. WATKINS,
Chairman.
Which was adopted.
Mr. Blake, Chairman on the part of the House, of the
Joint Select Committee on the Governor's Mansion, sub-
mitted the following
REPORT.
The Joint Committee of the two Houses of the General
Assembly of Maryland, appointed to visit and examine the
Governor's Mansion with a view to making an estimate of
the sum necessary to be appropriated for furnishing the same,
respectfully report, that they have performed the duty as-
signed them.
Your Committee have been extremely anxious to avoid all
unnecessary expense, but the size and finish of the house over
which we had no control, make it necessary for your Commit-
tee to propose a seemingly large sum, but not sufficient to
furnish the house in a style of elegance.
Your Committee believe that the people of Maryland desire
that their Chief Magistrate shall have the necessary comforts
and conveniences of life around him, and we respectfully
recommend the appropriation of the sum of twenty-five thou-
sand dollars for the purpose of furnishing said Mansion.
WM. B. STEPHENSON,
Chairman of the Senate Committee.
E. J. HENKLE,
DANIEL M. HENRY.
JOHN R. BLAKE,
Chairman of the House of Delegates Committee.
FENDALL MARBURY,
A. G. CHAPMAN.
