FRIDAY, February 4,1870.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Miller.
Present at roll call the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Biggs, Browne, Denson, Earle, Fields,
Henkle, Henry, Hyland, Jump, Kimmel, Maddox, Malone,
Miller, Parker, Snyder, Spates, Stephenson, Timmons,
Welch—20.

The Journal of Thursday was read and approved.

Mr. Henkle presented the memorial of the Faculties of the
University of Maryland, Washington University and the
College of Dental Surgery, praying the passage of an anato-
my Act.

Which was read and referred to Senators Henkle, Parker,
Brown and Hyland.

On motion by Mr. Hyland,

Leave of absence was granted to Senator Grove until
Tuesday next.

On motion by Mr. Biggs, it was

Ordered, That a Committee of three on the. part of the
Senate be appointed to act in concert with a Committee on
the part of the House, already appointed, to consider all mat-
ters appertaining to the Institution of the Deaf and Dumb,
located in the city of Frederick.

The President appointed as said Committee, Senators Earle,
Denson and Browne.

On motion by Mr. Timmons, it was

Ordered, That the Comptroller report to the Senate the
amount paid each newspaper in this State for the publication
of the general laws for the session of 1868 ; also, the total
amount paid for the said service.

Mr. Miller, from the Committee on Judicial Proceedings
to whom was referred House bill entitled an Act to provide
for the better protection of Mocking Birds in Dorchester
county, reported it with the following amendment:

Amend as follows: Strike out all in the second section after
the word "section," in the second line, and insert the words,
,'shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof
in the Circuit Court for said county, shall be fined not less
