COMPTROLLER'S OFFICE,

Annapolis, Jan. 29th, 1870.
Hon. Barnes Compton,
President of the Senate:

Sir: In compliance with an order passed by the Senate on
the 18th instant, to wit :

"Ordered, That the Comptroller report to the Senate at
the earliest practicable day the number and amount of claims
filed in his office under the several Bounty Laws of the State,
and also any that may be filed in his office without permis-
sion of law for their payment."

I beg leave to report that of the claims filed previous to
September 1st, 1868, there still remain unsettled as follows,
to wit:

Complete claims ready for payment—
176 entitled to $300 each, $52,800
21 " " 250 " 5,250
19 " " 100 " 1,900
3 " " 75 " 225
15 " " 50 " 730
2 " " 25 " 50

Total complete 236 " " $60,975

Incomplete claims—
198 claiming $300 each, $59,400
33 " 250 " 8,250
65 " 100 " 6,500
20 " 50 " 1,000

Total incomplete 316 $75,150

Claims filed by men who furnished substitutes not consid-
ered entitled under any Bounty Act, each of which, if enti-
tled at all, would receive $300 each, 1,185............$565,500

Claims filed since September 1st, 1868, foot up as follows,
to wit:

105 which would be entitled to $300, $31,500
5 " " " " 100, 500
5 " " " " 50, 250

Total filed since, 115 $32,250

Of the incomplete claims as enumerated above, it is safe
to presume that less than one-half of them will ever be com-
pleted for payment, hence, I make the following amounts to
be paid should the General Assembly open and enlarge the
