FRIDAY, January 14,1870.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Southgate.
Present at roll call the following Senators:

'Messrs. President, Biggs, Browne, Clarke, Earle, Fields,
Grove, Henry, Hyland, Jump, Malone, Sellman, Snyder,
Spates, Stephenson, Timmons, Welch, Wilson—18

Mr. Stephenson presented the petition of 30 citizens of
Harford county, to allow Rosanna S. Slade of said county a,
pension on account of services rendered in the war of 1812-14
by her late husband, Abraham Slade.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Also, the petition of 39 citizens of Harford county to allow
Hannah Slade of said county a pension on account of services
rendered the State in the war of 1812-14 by her late husband,
Jas. W. Slade.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

On motion by Mr. Snyder it was,

Ordered, That when the Senate adjourns tins day, it stand
adjourned until Monday, the 17th instant, at 12 o'clock, M.

The President announced a communication from his Excel-
lency Governor Bowie, endorsed, on executive business.

On motion by Mr. Earle,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to report
a, bill to direct the Attorney General to appear for the State
of Maryland in the case now pending in the Circuit Court for
the City of Baltimore wherein the Commonwealth of Virginia
is complainant, and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company
and others are defendants, and for other purposes. And in
case of appeal to authorize the Court of Appeals to hear and
determine said appeal without delay.

On motion by Mr. Earle,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to report
a bill to refund to Alexander Brown & Sons of Baltimore
city, agents of Brown, Shipley & Co., of London, money
erroneously paid into the Treasury of the State in July, 1867.

On motion by Mr. Jump,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
