Mr. Hyland presented the petition of Wm. T. Smith and
others, of District, No. 2, Somerset county,praying that the
place of holding elections in said district be changed.

Which was read and referred to Senators Hyland, Malone
and Timmons.

The President laid before the Senate the Report of Char-
lotte Hall School.

Which was referred to the Committee on Education.
On motion by Mr. Earle,

Leave was granted to Senators Earle, Malone and Miller
to report a bill to release James B. Palmer, Daniel Foil and
Stewart B. Emory, sureties on the bond of John.Palmer,
Collector of State and County Taxes in the Third Election
District of Queen Anne's county, for the year 1866.

On motion by Mr. Spates, it was

Ordered, That the Attorney General of this State be re-
spectfully requested to examine the various Acts of Congress
and Maryland, in relation to the National Road, leading
from Cumberland, Md., to the Pennsylvania line, and report
what obligations, if any, are imposed upon the State of Mary-
land, to keep said Road in repair, and report to the Senate
his opinion of the same, at as early a day as may to him be
convenient, and the Secretary of the Senate be directed to
send a copy of this order to the Attorney General of this
State.

On motion by Mr. Hyland, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal of the Senate,
that Dr. Parker is detained from his seat by sickness.

On motion by Mr. Browne,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations
to introduce a bill to amend the 8th section of the Charter
of the Baltimore, Carroll and Liberty Turnpike Company,
paused January session 1864, chapter 55.

On motion by Mr. Malone,

Leave was granted to the Senators from Wicomico, Dor-
chester and Caroline counties, to introduce a bill to extend
the corporate limits of the Town of Salisbury, in Wicomico
county.

On motion by Mr. Maddox,

Leave was granted to the Committed on Corporations to
introduce a bill to incorporate a company to promote immi-
gration to St. Mary's county,
