inform him that the two Houses of the General Assembly
were organized and ready to receive any communication he
might be pleased to make, reported that the Committee had
performed that duty, and that they had been requested by
his Excellency to inform the Senate that he would communi-
cate a message to the two Houses in a few moments.

The following message was received from his Excellency
Gov. Bowie, by the hands of Richard C. Hollyday, Esq.,
Secretary of State:

On motion by Mr. Earle,

The further reading of said message was postponed until
to-morrow.

On motion by Mr. Earle,
The Senate adjourned.

FRIDAY, January 7,1850.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Dr. Edwards.
Present, at roll call, the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Browne, Carroll, Clarke, Earle, Fields,
Grove, Henkle, Henry, Hyland, Jump, Kimmel, Miller, Sell-
man, Snyder, Spates, Stephenson, Welch. Wilson—19.

The reading of the Governor's Message was resumed and
concluded.

On motion by Mr. Stephenson, it was

Ordered, That the Governor's Message be referred to a se-
lect committee of four whose duty it shall be to report the
reference of its several subjects to appropriate committees.

The President appointed as said committee, Senators Ste-
phenson, Carroll, Henry and Clarke

On motion by Mr. Clarke, it was

Ordered, That when the Public Printer shall be appointed
by the General Assembly, that one thousand copies of the
Governor's Message be printed for the use of the Senate-
750 copies in English and 250 copies in German—under such
