On motion by Mr. Wilson,
Said message was ordered to lie on the table.
On motion by Mr. Spates, it was

Ordered, That it be entered upon the journal that the
Hon. William O. Sellman is detained from his seat by sick
ness.

On motion by Mr. Stephenson, it was

Ordered, That the hour of the daily meeting of the Senate
shall be 12 o'clock, meridian, until otherwise ordered.

The President laid before the Senate the following commu-
nication from the State Comptroller, covering his Annual
Report:

STATE OF MARYLAND,
Treasury Department, Comptroller's Office,

Annapolis, Jan. 6, 1870.
Hon. BARNES COMPTON,
President of the Senate:

Sir—I herewith submit to your Honorable Body a copy of
my Annual Report, showing the receipts and disbursements,
and the condition of the finances of the State, for the year
ended September 30th, 1869.

It will afford me pleasure to give such additional in-
formation or explanation as your Honorable Body may at
any time require.
Very respectfully,
Your ob't servant,
WILLIAM J. LEONARD,
Comptroller.

On motion by Mr. Snyder,

Said report was referred to the Committee on Finance,
hereafter to be appointed.

On motion by Mr. Earle, it was,

Ordered, That a committee of three bo appointed by the
Chair to consider the advantages of changing the arrange-
ments for heating the Senate Chamber by cutting off the
heat from the furnace and conforming the present fire-place
to the use of wood fuel.

The President appointed Messrs. Earle, Clarke and Fields
as said Committee.

Senators Earle and Henkle, from the Joint Committee ap-
pointed to wait upon his Excellency the Governor, and
