to examine said accounts, and when found correct to pay the
same out of any unexpended balance of the appropriation,
created for the liquidation of said claims by chapter 425, of
1868.

Which were read a first time.

Mr. Brown presented the petition of R. A. Wright, C. J.
B. Mitchell and 33 other citizens of Queen Anne's county for
amendments to the oyster law, so as to prevent depredations
by dredgers in the waters of Queen Anne's county.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the

Chesapeake bay and its tributaries.

Mr. Shipley presented the petition of Michael Bloom,
Wm. Sharswood and 72 others, against the passage of a law
to prevent stock from running at large in Baltimore county.

Which was read and referred to the Baltimore county

delegation.

Mr. Harrington presented the petition of Thomas W. An-

derson and 73 other citizens of the town of Cambridge, in
Dorchester county, praying the passage of the Senate bill
authorizing and empowering the Town Commissioners of

Cambridge to endorse and guarantee the bonds of the Cam-
bridge Harbor Internal Navigation and Wharf Company.

Which was read and referred to the Dorchester delegation.
The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following bills:

The bill entitled an Act to authorize the Comptroller to
pay over to the School Commissioners of Howard county, the
arrearages due from the Academic fund, and to pay annually
to said county the amounts due from such fund.

Which was read a first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Ways and Means.

Also,

The bill entitled an Act to authorize the Powhatan Steam-
boat Company of Baltimore to issue bonds, and to increase
their capital stock.

Which: was read a first time and referred to the Commit-

tee on Corporations.

Also,

The bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Newtown Gas
Light Company.

Which was read a first time and referred to the Committee

on Corporations.
