Council received its present name in June 1993
The Council advocates that persons with devel
opmental disabilities can live successfully outside of
institutions To this end, it secures services for such
persons and their families, particularly in employ
ment, child care, and education The Council, for
example, helps persons with developmental dis
abilities hold jobs bv hiring job coaches to tram
them at the workplace It helps day care centers
prepare to care for a disabled child Or the Council
might offer parents an advocate who will convey a
child's special needs to educators Annually, the
Council funds demonstration projects that enable
citizens with developmental disabilities to become
independent and productive in their communities
The Council is an independent, self governing
bod) funded by federal monies It reports directly
to the Administration on Developmental Disabili
ties, U S Department of Health and Human Serv
ices (US Code, Title 42, sec 6024) Appointed

Initiated informal!) by the Governor in May 1987,
the Go\ ernor's Executive Committee on Drunk and
Drugged Driving was established by Executive Order
in 1994 (Executive Order 01 01 1994 30)
The C ommittee coordinates the policies and actions
of State agencies regarding drunk or drugged driving It
also recommends wavs to deter alcohol and drug im
paired driving Periodically, the Committee makes pro

gram and pokey recommendauons to the Gover
nor To address prevention and education, deter
rence and enforcement, treatment, data collection
and evaluation, and other issues, die Committee
may establish standing and ad hoc subcommittees
