In April 1989, the Governor's Motor Carrier Task
Force for Safety and Uniformity was appointed by the
Governor as the successor to the Governor's Task
Force on Uniform Motor Carrier Procedures, and the
Truck Safety Task Force. The Task Force studies exist-
ing procedures for taxation, registration, and ad-
ministrative regulation of heavy trucks and buses. It
develops procedures that are simple and uniform,
while en-iuring safely and payment of a fair share of
highway user costs by commercial vehicles.
Task Force members represent elected and ap-
pointed State officials, the motor carrier industry,
labor, and the public.

In 1976, the Governor appointed the Maryland
Advisory Board of the National Historical Publica-
tions and Records Commission to carry our the
historical records program of the National Histori-

cal Publications and Records Commission. The
program is a cooperative effort of the Commission,
state records coordinators, state advisory boards,
and institutions and organizations throughout the
country concerned with the records of the nation.
The National Historical Publications and
Records Commission encourages government and
private organizations to preserve and make available
for use those records that further an appreciation
and understanding of American history In addition
to supporting projects that directly relate to a body
of records, the Commission also may support
projects to promote cooperative efforts among in-
stitutions and organizations and to improve the
knowledge, performance, and professional skills of
chose who work with historical records.
Guidelines and Procedures: Applications and
Grants, a pamphlet describing the program, is avail-
able upon request.
Appointed by the Governor, the Maryland Ad-
visory Board consists of at least seven members,
including the Coordinator who serves as chairper-
son. Members serve three-year terms. They repre-
sent archival and research institutions and
organizations in Maryland. The State Historical
Records Coordinator is the State Archivist.
