At the request of the General Assembly, the
Governor created the Task Force to Study the Crisis
in Nursing in August 1987 (Joint Resolution no. 4,
Acts of 1987). The Task Force studied the shortage
of nursing personnel in Maryland. In its preliminary
report of November 1987 and its final report of
February 1988, the Task Force recommended ways
to retain working nurses, attract inactive nurses
back to the profession, and promote nursing as a
profession in secondary schools.

In November 1987, the Governor created the
Radon Task Force to determine the extent of health
risks from radon in Maryland and to develop a State
plan for unsafe concentrations of indoor radon
(Joint Resolution no. 11, Acts of 1987).
The Task Force issued a report in January 1988
and submitted its final report in February 1989.
