At the request of the General Assembly, the
Governor created this task force in August 1983
(Joint Resolution no. 27, Acts of 1983). The Task
Force is to examine the State's role in financing
services and programs provided by senior citizen
centers. It also will study the history of State in-
volvement with the centers and examine center
programs and services and their future develop-
ment.

In September 1986, at the request of the Gener-
al Assembly, the Governor created the Committee
to Study Sentencing and Correctional Alternatives
for Women Convicted of Crime (Joint Resolution
no. 34, Acts of 1986). The Committee is also
known as the Committee on Correctional Oppor-
tunities for Women Offenders.
The Committee will study the status of women
convicted of crime in Maryland. By December
1987, the Committee is to report its recommenda-
tions for improving rehabilitation programs for
women in prison.

At the request of the General Assembly, the
Governor created the Committee to Study Antici-
pated Sewage Treatment Needs in October 1986
(Joint Resolution nos. 40 and 41, Acts of 1986).
The Committee is to examine means of assuring
that funds are available to treat sewage. The Com-
mittee also is to study the potential for involving
the private sector in the funding, construction,
and operation of sewage treatment plants.

The Interagency Committee on Specialized
Transportation was created in 1975 by Executive
Order (amended 1978, 1983). The Committee is
responsible for developing a plan to manage, ad-
minister, and use federal funds available under the
Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 (Section
16(B)(2)). These funds provide capital assistance
for transportation services for handicapped and
elderly persons. The Committee also is to develop
a plan to coordinate the activities of all State
agencies involved in providing these services.
