The Governor originally appointed this commit-
tee in 1971 to establish a safety program for State
employees who drive State and private motor ve-
hicles to conduct official State business. The Gov-
ernor reauthorized the Committee in 1985 (Exec-
utive Order 01.01.1985.21).
The Committee advises the Governor on mat-
ters relating to the safe operation and mainte-
nance of the State's motor vehicle fleet. This advi-
sory role includes recommending changes in rules
and regulations for the use of State agency motor
vehicles. The Committee also coordinates fleet
safety activities by State agencies. In addition, the
Committee is to develop a comprehensive plan for
the prevention of accidents, an accident review in-
formation system, and a driver improvement pro-
gram.

The Governor's Cabinet Council on the Coordi-
nation of Food and Nutrition was created in De-
cember 1985 (Executive Order 01.01.1985.35).
The Council is responsible for developing a State

policy on food and nutrition services. In accord-
ance with Federal Executive Order 12372, the
Council also evaluates ways to consolidate and
simplify federal food program plans.
The Council recommends annual food and nu-
trition priorities, as well as changes in programs
and budgets. In addition, the Council considers
methods to identify and monitor the nutritional
needs of Marylanders and to foster public and pri-
vate coordination of efforts to meet those needs.

The Governor appointed the Hart-Miller Advi-
sory Board in 1981. The Board monitors the con-
struction of the Hart-Miller Spoils Area Dike and
advises the Governor of any problems in the
progress of that construction or operation.

The Advisory Commission on the Hearing Im-
paired was created by the Governor in 1983 to in-
vestigate and provide recommendations on the
needs and interests of deaf and hearing impaired
Marylanders. The Commission will evaluate cur-
rent State services to the hearing impaired and
