The Governor created this task force in June
1983 to evaluate existing programs that provide
financial assistance, equipment, and facility financ-
ing to volunteer fire, rescue, and ambulance com-
panies. The Task Force evaluated the administra-
tion and effectiveness of the Emergency Assistance
Trust Fund, established by Chapter 239, Acts of
1982, and reviewed the effectiveness of local finan-
cial assistance programs.
The Task Force reported to the Governor in
December 1983, and will submit its final report at
a later date.

At the request of the General Assembly, the
Governor formed this task force in November 1984
(Joint Resolution no. 26, Acts of 1984). The Task
Force will study ways to increase voter registration
and participation. It will examine what opportuni-
ties for registration exist at schools, post offices,
State government offices, universities and colleges,
community centers, and workplaces.
By July 1985, the Task Force is to report to the
Governor and General Assembly.

In December 1983, the Governor created the
Western Maryland Enterprise Study Committee.
The Committee is to evaluate the feasibility of
developing a resort conference center on State-
owned land in Western Maryland. In March 1984,
the Committee submitted an interim report to the
Governor and the Secretary of Natural Resources.
The Committee found that by a joint State govern-
ment and private sector effort, a conference center
might be feasible at either Deep Creek Lake State
Park or at Rocky Gap State Park.

The Governor created this commission in 1981
(Executive Orders 01.01.1981.02, and
01.01.1981.08). The Commission is to conduct a
thorough study of laws governing or related to
workmen's compensation. It shall recommend
changes in State law as appear to be in the public
interest. The Commission reports annually to the
Governor by October 15.
