The Maryland Heritage Committee was ap-
pointed by the Governor in 1982 (Joint Resolution
no. 6, Acts of 1982). The Committee was estab-
lished to coordinate plans for commemorating,
among others, the following four events in Mary-
land's history: first, the granting of the Charter of
Maryland (June 20, 1632); second, the 350th
|
anniversary of the founding of Maryland (March
25, 1634); third, the bicentennial of the resignation
in the State House at Annapolis of Gen. George
Washington as commander in chief of the Revolu-
tionary Army (December 23, 1783); and fourth,
the bicentennial of the ratification in the State
House at Annapolis of the Treaty of Paris formally
ending the War of Independence (January 14,
1784). The Committee is to cooperate with local
governments and interested private organizations
in planning these commemorations, administer
grant funds and review competitive grant propos-
als, and monitor programs, events, and activities.
The Committee will continue until June 30,
1985, and is required to report its activities to the
Governor and the General Assembly.

The Governor's High Technology Roundtable
was formed by the Governor in 1983. The Round-
table encourages the advancement of high technol-
ogy skills among Marylanders and serves as a
catalyst, attracting financial support for programs
designed to enhance the State's high technology
base. It helps establish teams of public and private
sector representatives to achieve specific high tech-
nology objectives. The Roundtable reports twice
yearly to the Governor.
