The Board of Examining Engineers, established
by Chapter 448, Acts of 1892, had its member-
ship altered by Chapter 599, Acts of 1966. The
Board now consists of five members and a Secre-
tary, all appointed by the Governor with the ad-
vice of the Secretary of Licensing and Regulation
for two-year terms. Three members must have
had experience operating steam engines, boilers,
and stationary or portable engines. The Board ex-
amines applicants for certificates of proficiency to
operate stationary or portable engines in Balti-
more City, and all such certificates must come
before the Board for renewal each year. The
Board also periodically inspects all industries and
places of business where licensed engineers are
employed to ensure compliance with the law
(Public Local Laws of Baltimore City, 1969, Art.
4, secs. 1-6).

The State Board of Registration for Forest-
ers, created by Chapter 638, Acts of 1972, exam-
ines licenses and registers persons wishing to en-
gage in the practice of forestry in Maryland.
The Board consists of seven members ap-
pointed by the Governor with the advice and
consent of the Senate for five-year terms. Five
members must be Registered Professional Fores-
ters and are appointed from a list of ten nominees
recommended by the Maryland Chapter, Society
of American Foresters. They must have engaged
in the practice of forestry for at least ten years
prior to their appointment. The Board selects its
own officers.

The Board was assigned to the Department of
Licensing and Regulation by Section 5, Chapter
4, Acts of the Special Session of 1973, effective
January 1, 1974 (Code 1957, Art. 56, secs.
299-319).

The Board of Examiners for Hearing Aid Deal-
ers, created by Chapter 634, Acts of 1969, con-
sists of five members appointed by the Governor
with the advice and consent of the Senate for
five-year terms. The Governor designates the
Chairperson. One member must he licensed to
practice medicine in Maryland and hold a certifi-
cate of qualification from the American Board of
Otolaryngology. One member must hold a certifi-
cate of competence in audiology from the Ameri-
can Speech and Hearing Association and have
had at least four years of paid work experience in
audiology prior to his appointment. The remain-
ing three members must be persons experienced
in the sale of hearing aids and be recommended
by the Maryland members of the Hearing Aid
Dealers Association of Maryland, the District of
Columbia, and Delaware.
The Board registers and regulates persons fur-
nishing hearing aids. It also tests audiometric
testing equipment and inspects the facilities of
persons who practice the fitting of hearing aids
(Code 1957, Art. 43, secs. 725-742).
