Chapter of the National Association of So-
cial Workers. The Board issues licenses to
Social Work Associates, Graduate Social
Workers, and Certified Social Workers.
Under certain conditions the Board may
take disciplinary measures to reprimand,
suspend, revoke or refuse to renew the li-
cense of a licensee (Code 1957, 1971 Repl-Vol.,
1975 Supp., Art. 43, sees. 840-51).

The State Board of Examiners for Speech
Pathologists, created by Chapter 547, Acts
of 1972, consists of five members appointed
by the Secretary of Health and Mental Hy-
giene for five-year terms, one term expiring
each year. The members of the Board must
be residents of Maryland, three of whom
must have paid work experience in speech
pathology for at least five years, hold the
certificate of clinical competence in speech
pathology of the American Speech and
Hearing Association or the equivalent and
be approved by the Maryland Speech and
Hearing Association. One member must
have paid work experience in audiology for
at least five years, hold the certificate of
clinical competence in audiology of the
American Speech and Hearing Association
or the equivalent and be approved by the
Maryland Speech and Hearing Association
One member must be a person licensed to
practice medicine in Maryland and hold a
certificate of qualification from the Ameri-
can Board of Otolaryngology.

The Board evaluates the qualifications of
Speech Pathologists in this State and issues
licenses to those who fulfill the requirements.
The licenses are renewed annually (Code
1957, 1971 Repl. Vol., 1975 Supp., Art.
43, sees. 790-808).

This Board was created by Chapter 430,
Acts of 1967. It consists of nine members
appointed by the Governor from among
representatives of municipal government,
sanitary or metropolitan commissions, a
water works superintendent, a wastewater
works superintendent, a farmer, an engi-
neer, and representatives of the State De-
partment of Health and Mental Hygiene and
the Water Resources Administration. Mem-
bers serve for four-year staggered terms, ex-
cept that the representatives of the Depart-
ment of Health and Mental Hygiene and the
Water Resources Administration serve at
the pleasure of their appointing authorities.
The Board is to establish a certification
program for Superintendents of water
works, wastewater works, and industrial
wastewater works to protect public health
and to prevent pollution. The Board also
coordinates examinations for Superintendent
certification (Code 1957, 1971 Repi. Vol.,
Art. 43, sec. 406A).
