AGED AND CHRONICALLY ILL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION

This Administration conducts programs directed towards the prob-
lems of aging and the prevention and care of chronic illness among
adults. Preventative programs include the early detection and treat-
ment of cancer, diabetes, hypertension, etc., and the prevention of dis-
eases related to occupation. Hospital level care is provided for pa-
tients in need of rehabilitation services, and for those afflicted with
chronic illnesses. A limited number of beds are maintained in some
health centers to provide Skilled and Intermediate A type nursing
home services for selected patients.

DEER'S HEAD CENTER

Salisbury (Wicomico County) 21801 Telephone: 742-2164
Deer's Head Center, authorized by Chapter 994, Acts of 1945, was
established in 1950 and has facilities for 282 patients. It is the regional
facility for patients in need of care and treatment for chronic diseases,
or in need of rehabilitation services.

PINE BLUFF CENTER

Pine Bluff Center is operated as a 40 bed Intermediate A nursing
home type facility, as an integral part of Deer's Head Center. Current
plans are to close this institution during fiscal year 1974.

MONTEBELLO CENTER

Montebello Center, authorized by Chapter 412, Acts of 1951, opened
in 1953 as the principal unit of the Chronic Disease Hospital System.
Its principal emphasis is on rehabilitation. Its licensed bed capacity is
245.
