AND RECYCLING OF MOTOR VEHICLES

The Governor appointed this Commission in 1970 to study and re-
view all matters relating to the storage and disposal of junk and aban-
doned automobiles. The Commission is composed of members of the
General Assembly, the Motor Vehicle Administration, auto wreckers
and scrap processors. The Commission is to make its report at a later
date.

The former Department of Employment Security established an Ap-
prenticeship Information Center in the Spring of 1964 under the direc-
tion of the U. S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and
Training. In conjunction with the opening, the Governor and the Mayor
of Baltimore City jointly appointed a Citizens Advisory Committee.
The Governor reactivated this Committee in 1970 and reappointed its
members. The Committee consists of employer groups, labor minor-
ities, the general public and representatives of state and local govern-
ment. The primary duty of the Committee is to review all manner of
legislation or official decisions which are made effecting the execution
of the apprenticeship system. The Committee is also to promote oppor-
tunities for employment to youths as apprentices, act as consultants
and advisors to all groups concerning apprenticeship, advise and assist
in problem areas where resistance to equal opportunity practices is
strong or determined, encourage the setting up of formal apprentice-
ship programs, and study ways and means of encouraging and accel-
erating apprenticeship job opportunities. Officers serve for one year
terms and appoint the Director.
