Department of Horticulture, University of Maryland, College Park 20742 Telephone: 464-3614 At the request of the General Assembly, the Governor created this permanent Committee in 1959 to develop and recommend standards to insure that out-of-state farm laborers shall be imported, main- tained, and employed in Maryland under satisfactory conditions of housing, sanitation, health and welfare. The Legislature specified the following membership for the Committee: the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Director of the Social Services Administration; the State Superintendent of Schools; the Commissioner of the Division of Labor and Industry; the Executive Director of the Employment Se- curity Administration; the Director of the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Maryland; the Superintendent of Maryland State Police; a representative of the Catholic Rural Life Conference; the Executive Secretary of the Middle Atlantic Food Processors As- sociation; the Secretary of the Maryland Farm Bureau, Inc.; the Secretary of the Maryland State Grange; the Presidents of the Mary- land State Fruit and Vegetable Growers' Associations; and the Sec-retary-Treasurer of the Maryland State and District of Columbia AFL-CIO, or their representatives. The Committee submits an annual report November I of each year (J. R. No. 9, Acts of 1959). The budget for the Governor's Commission for the Regulation and Study of Migratory Labor in Maryland is included in that of the Office of the Secretary.
