MARYLAND MANUAL 149 GOVERNOR'S YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL David E. Eutaw Street, Baltimore 21201 Telephone: 383-3781 The Governor's Youth Advisory Council was created within the Department of Employment and Social Services by Executive Order in 1971. The Governor's Youth Advisory Council is charged with communi- cating to the Governor, the Legislature and the citizenry of the State, the concerns of Maryland youth on matters involving State programs, policies and legislation which affect the young people of the State. The Delegates to the Council comprise one-hundred and fifteen members between the ages of thirteen and twenty-two, all chosen from diverse backgrounds. One hundred were chosen at random by utilizing a formula which insures equitable distribution by age, race, sex and geography. Fifteen were selected by direct appointment of the Governor. Eutaw Street, Baltimore, 21201 Telephone 383-3780 This Commission was established in 1972 as the successor of the Maryland Committee for Children and Youth. The predecessor com- mittee, known as the Maryland Committee on Children and Youth was originally appointed in 1969 to plan for Maryland's participation in the 1970 White House Conference on Children and Youth. The Com- mission has been charged with the following duties: To collect, com- pile and disseminate information about the problem and needs of children and youth; help coordinate public and private programs for children and youth; advocate the participation of children and youth in decision making positions in agencies whose programs concern children and youth; evaluate and make recommendations on legisla- tion affecting children and youth. The budget of the Commission is included in that of the Office of the Secretary. |
