ties, he is appointed by the Executive with the approval of the County Council. In Wicomico County, he is appointed by the Administrative Director subject to confirmation by the County Council. Supervisor of Assessments: Appointed by the State Department of Assessments and Taxation for an indefinite term from a list of five persona submitted by the Board of County Commissioners or County Councils (Code 1967, 1&69 Repl. Vol., Art. 81, Sees. 232-237). Board of Supervisors of Elections: Consists of three members, one of whom must be the minority party member, appointed by the Governor, with the consent of the Senate, for two-year terms (Code 1967, 1971 Repl. Vol., 1971 Supp„ Art. 33, Sec. 2-1 (a)). In Caroline, Dorchester and Kent counties the members are appointed with the advice and consent of the House of Delegates if there is no resident Senator for those counties (Code 1957, 1971 Repl. Vol., Art. 33, Sec. 2-1 (e)). Permanent Board of .Registry: One member appointed by the majority members of the Board of Supervisors of Elections and one member appointed by the minority member of the Board of Supervisors of Elections (Code 1957, 1971 Repl. Vol., Art. 33, Sec. 3-10). Director of Civil Defense: Appointed by the Governor for an indefinite term (Code 1967, 1966 Repl. Vol., Art. 16A, Sec. 7). Deputy Medical Examiner: Appointed by the Commission of Post-Mortem Examiners for an indefinite term (Code 1967, 1966 Repl. Vol., Art. 22, Sec. 3). Health Officers: Appointed for an indefinite term by the Board of County Com- missioners or the County Councils, with the approval of the State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The governing body of the county serves ex officio as the local board of health (Code 1967, 1971 Repl. Vol., Art. 43, Sees. 46-63). Physical Fitness Commissions: Appointed by the Governor upon the recommendation of the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene for indefinite terms. The Commission is composed of 16-25 members in each county and Balti- more City. The Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene designates the Chairman of each Commission (Code 1967, 1971 Repl. Vol., Art. 41, Sec. 344). Citizens Nursing Home Boards: Consists of ten members appointed by the governing body of the county for three-year terms. One member must represent the gov- erning body of the county. The Board selects its own Chairman (Code 1967, 1971 Repl. Vol., 1971 Supp„ Art. 43, Sec. 666A). Mental Health Advisory Committees: Appointed by the governing body of the county. Each committee consists of one representative from the county governing body, the school board, the social services board, practicing physicians, the clergy, the legal profession, and three to six members representing the county at large. Members serve for three-year terms (Code 1967, 1971 Repl. Vol., Art. 43, Sec. IJ). Community Action Committees: Appointed by resolution of the governing body of the County. |
