Board of Airport Zoning Appeals
(members not yet appointed)
The same Act also created a Board of Airport Zoning Appeals
which is to consist of five members, all of whom are to be appointed
by the Airport Zoning Board. Three members must be residents of
Anne Arundel County and the other two must reside in Baltimore
City. The Airport Zoning Board designates the Chairman.
"The Board hears, decides, and grants specific variances from airport
zoning regulations in cases of practical difficulty or unnecessary hard-
ship after public notice has been given and a hearing held in con-
nection therewith (Code 1957, 1968 Repl. Vol., 1970 Supp., Art. 62C,
sec. 21j).

The Governor originally appointed the members of this Committee
in 1966 to carry out the terms of the Federal Highway Safety Act
of 1966 (Public Law 89-664). The Committee is a continuing one and
will give broad and general guidance to the entire highway safety
program. By Executive Order in 1969, the Governor established it as
a permanent office in the Executive Branch. The Secretary of Trans-
portation is designated as the Governor's Representative for Highway
Safety. The Coordinator and the Deputy Coordinator both serve at the
pleasure of the Governor (Code 1967, 1971 Repl. Vol., Art. 66%,
sec. 2).
