Dell, Secretary-Treasurer Room 919, One Charles Center, Baltimore 21201 Telephone: 752-7831 The Metropolitan Transit Authority established by Chapter 160, Acts of 1969, succeeded the former Authority which was created by Chapter 670, Acts of 1961. The present Authority is an instrumen- tality of the State of Maryland to plan, develop, finance, construct, acquire and operate or cause to be operated, transit facilities and improvement in the Metropolitan Transit District which comprises Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Anne Arundel County. The Authority is governed by a Board of Directors composed of seven voting members, all of whom are appointed for four-year terms and the Chairman-Director of the State Roads Commission and the Executive Director of the Regional Planning Council who serve ex officio as non-voting members. The Chairman and three members of the Authority are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. One member is appointed by the Mayor of Baltimore City, one by the County Executive of Baltimore County, and one by the County Executive of Anne Arundel County, each with the consent of the legislative bodies of each jurisdiction. Members of the Authority elect the Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. The Authority derives its operating revenue from an appropriation by the State of Maryland. For the fiscal year 1970, $150,000 was pro- vided for mass transit development studies contingent upon federal grants to be obtained for planning and engineering of a system for the District. The Authority, under its enabling Act, is authorized to issue Revenue Bonds for the construction, acquisition, and operation of transit facilities in the District (Code 1967, 1968 Repl.
