State Office Building, Annapolis 21404 Telephone: 268-3371 The Scenic Rivers Review Board was created by Chapter 85, Acts of 1968, to make an inventory and to recommend annually to the General Assembly, rivers of Maryland and related adjacent land areas, which possess outstanding scenic, fishing, wildlife and other recrea- tion values of present and potential benefit to the citizens of Mary- land. The Board consists of the Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources, the Secretary of State Planning, the Chairman of the Maryland Environmental Trust, and the five departmental direc- tors of the Department of Natural Resources. The Board cooperates with Federal agencies, other State agencies, and counties to inventory and establish a Maryland Scenic River System. Agencies within the Department of Natural Resources are directed to administer the Scenic Rivers Program in such a manner that it will provide wise management of this resource. The waters and adjacent lands are to be preserved for their scenic and aesthetic qualities. Scenic rivers may be developed to accommodate limited multiple uses. However, the main objective is to designate streams which will provide enjoyment for the general public through a setting of natural solitude (Code 1957, 1967 Repl.
