The Board was created to make available to State water pollution control programs the advice and assistance of the scientific capabili- ties of institutions of higher learning, private industry, and agencies of government and other public bodies not normally associated with water pollution control activities. The Board is to work closely with State agencies in the monitoring of water quality, data processing, laboratory services, and other matters connected with water pollu- tion (Code 1957, 1965 Repl. Patterson Hall, University of Maryland, College Park 20742 Telephone: 454-3646 The State Soil Conservation Committee, established by Chapter 436, Acts of 1937, and as amended from time to time since that date, consists of the Chairman of the State Board of Agriculture or other member of the Board he may designate, the Director of the Agricul- tural Experiment Station, the Director of the Agriculture Extension Service, the Dean of the College of Agriculture, the Director of the Department of Game and Inland Fish, the Director of the Depart- ment of Forests and Parks, the Director of the Department of Water Resources, the Director of the Department of Chesapeake Bay Affairs, the Chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee of the U. S. Department of Agriculture, the State Con- servationist, Soil Conservation Service, U. S. Department of Agricul- ture, and the President of the Maryland Association of Soil Conserva- tion Districts, Inc. The Committee also includes three soil conservation district supervisors representing different geographic areas of the State from soil conservation districts organized in Maryland, appointed by the State Board of Agriculture. Each of these supervisors serve three-year terms. The State Soil Conservation Committee has organized Soil Con- servation Districts in all counties of the State. The Committee co- ordinates the work of the twenty-four Soil Conservation Districts in Maryland to further the application of scientifically sound and prac- tical conservation measures to the lands in Maryland which will re- sult in a retardation of erosion and the advancement of soil and |
