McVey, Personnel Officer State Office Building, Annapolis 21401 Telephone: 268-3371 The Department of Natural Resources was created by Chapter 154, Acts of 1969 to replace the Board of Natural Resources which had been originally established by Chapter 509, Acts of 1941. The head of the Department is the Secretary of Natural Resources who is ap- pointed by the Governor by and with the advice and consent of the Senate. The Secretary serves at the pleasure of the Governor and is directly responsible to him. He advises and counsels the Governor on all matters assigned to the Department of Natural Resources, and is also responsible for carrying out the Governor's policies in the areas of natural resources research and development, management and administration. He appoints, with the approval of the Governor, a Deputy Secretary who serves at the pleasure of the Secretary.
