papers, billboards, safety conferences, lectures and exhibits. The
Commission also plans State-wide safety programs and works with
national organizations in the promotion of traffic safety. In coopera-
tion with the Department of State Police the Commission issues
releases to the media on traffic accidents and fatalities in the State
(Code 1957, 1967 Repl. Vol., Art. 41, sees. 229-30; 1967 Repl. Vol.,
Art 66%, sec. 341d).

The Department of Natural Resources was created by Chapter 154,
Acts of 1969 to replace the Board of Natural Resources which had
been originally established by Chapter 509, Acts of 1941. The head of
the Department is the Secretary of Natural Resources who is ap-
pointed by the Governor by and with the advice and consent of the
Senate. The Secretary serves at the pleasure of the Governor and is
directly responsible to him. He advises and counsels the Governor on
all matters assigned to the Department of Natural Resources, and
is also responsible for carrying out the Governor's policies in the
areas of natural resources research and development, management and
administration. He appoints, with the approval of the Governor, a
Deputy Secretary who serves at the pleasure of the Secretary.
The Department of Natural _ Resources consists of the following
departments, agencies, commissions, boards and committees: the De-
partment of Chesapeake Bay Affairs, the Commission on Chesapeake
Bay Affairs, the Department of Game and Inland Fish, the Game and
Inland Fish Commission, the Department of Forests and Parks, the
Commission on Forests and Parks, the Maryland Geological Survey,
the Maryland Geological Survey Commission, the Bureau of Mines, the
Mine Examining Board, the Maryland Commission on Mining Laws,
the Land Reclamation Committee, the Maryland membership unit of
the Interstate Oil Compact Commission, the Upper Potomac River
Commission, the Governor's Patuxent River Watershed Advisory
Committee, the Maryland Environmental Trust, the Maryland mem-
bership unit of the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River
Basin, the Maryland membership unit of the Interstate Advisory
Committee on the Susquehanna River Basin, the Maryland member-
ship unit of the Susquehanna River Basin Commission, the Maryland
membership unit of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission,
the Maryland membership unit of the Potomac River Basin Advisory
Committee, the Maryland membership unit of the Potomac River
