Glen Burnie (Anne Arundel County) Telephone: Southfield 6-7260

This school was established in 1883 as the Industrial School for
Girls. The school was purchased by the State in 1934 and the name
changed to the Maryland Training School for Colored Girls. The 1949
General Assembly authorized the adoption of the present name (Acts
1949, chap. 314). The school provides for the care and education of
delinquent colored girls. During the fiscal year 1959 it provided care
for 80 girls committed to the school and 62 girls who were detained
there.

MONTROSE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

This school was established as the Female House of Refuge in 1886
and purchased by the State in 1918. When the school was moved from
Baltimore to its present site in 1922, it adopted its present name. The
school provides for the care and training of delinquent white girls.
During the fiscal year 1959 it provided care for 154 girls who were
committed to the school and 116 girls who were detained there.
