and Parks. These camps serve older boys received on transfer from
either the Maryland Training School for Boys, or Boys' Village of
Maryland (Code 1957, Art. 88A, sec. 39). Boys selected for transfer
must be at least 15 1/2 years of age, must be in good physical health,
and must be interested in an active outdoor work and living expe-
rience. The camps were created in the conviction that older boys could
be guided back to good citizenship under care in these camps; and
that at the same time, the boys would be assisting in the conservation
of the State's natural resources and contributing to the cost of their
maintenance. During the fiscal year 1959 the camps served a total of
304 boys.

Boys' Forestry Camp—Green Ridge

Green Ridge Forestry Camp for Boys was established in May 1955
as a specialized institution to be operated by the State Department of
Public Welfare in cooperation with the State Department of Forests
and Parks. It has facilities for 25 boys. The average daily population
during fiscal 1959 was 27 boys.

Boys' Forestry Camp—Lonaconing

The apparent success of the first Boys' Forestry Camp at Green
Ridge prompted the 1956 General Assembly to appropriate capital
funds for two additional camps and operating funds for Gamp II. The
first of these two camps is located in Garrett County just four miles
from Lonaconing. It opened in December 1957 with facilities for 25
boys. During the fiscal 1959 the average daily population was 24 boys.

Boys' Forestry Camp—New Germany

The third Boys' Forestry Camp was opened in June 1958 at New
Germany in Garrett County. It has facilities for 25 boys. The average
daily population during fiscal 1959 was 17 boys.
