BOYS' VILLAGE OF MARYLAND

This institution was established in 1870 as the House of Reforma-
tion for Colored. Boys. In. 1937, when. the property was purchased
by the State, it became known as The Cheltenham School for Boys.
The present name was adopted in 1949 by legislative authority (Acts
1949, chap. 692). The school provides for the care and training of
delinquent colored boys. During the fiscal year of 1969 it provided
care for 460 boys committed to the school and 402 boys who were
detained there.

This institution was established in 1851 as the House of Refuge;
when purchased by the State in 1918, the present name was adopted.
The school provides for the care and training of delinquent white boys.
During the fiscal year 1959 it provided care for 550 boys committed
to the school and 482 who were detained there.
