The Commission on the Administrative Organization of the State
was appointed by the Governor in March, 1951, for the purposes of
examining the administrative structures and procedures of the State
and making recommendations, if found necessary, to increase its
economy and efficiency. The Commission is assisted by a larger
Citizens' Advisory Committee, also appointed by the Governor. The
Commission is temporary and will disband upon completion of its
assigned task.
MARYLAND COMMISSION TO STUDY AND REPORT ON THE
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM OPERATED BY THE
BALTIMORE TRANSIT COMPANY

The Maryland Commission to Study and Report on the Transpor-
tation System Operated by the Baltimore Transit Company was
authorized by the General Assembly of 1951. The Commission is com-
posed of five members appointed by the Governor after consultation
with the Mayor of Baltimore. It is the purpose of the Commission to
study the financial condition of the transit company, adequacy and
possible interruptions of service, working conditions of its employees,
methods and cost of operation, and labor and public relations. The
Commission is further authorized to study the mass transportation
problem in Baltimore and its environs and to develop all relative facts
concerning the quality and continuity of such public service and its
future. The Commission is to make a printed report to the Governor,
the Mayor of Baltimore and the Legislative Council on or before
December 1, 1961 (Acts 1951, Ch. 392).
