in a church for sacramental purposes, or in some mechanical,
chemical or medicinal establishment requiring its use, or whilst
in storage for transportation.

140. The boundaries of said district for the purposes of the
preceding section shall extend to the middle of the channel of
Tangier Sound and Menokin River, respectively, wherever they
or either of them shall bind upon said district.

141. If any person shall sell or give intoxicating liquors con-
trary to the provisions of the 139th section of this article, he
shall be fined not less than ten nor more than fifty dollars for
the first offence, and in default of payment, shall be imprisoned
not less than five nor more than twenty days, or may be both
fined and imprisoned in the discretion of the judge or justice be-
fore whom he may be tried, and for the second offence he shall
be fined not less than twenty-five nor more than one hundred
dollars, and shall be imprisoned for not less than ten nor more
than sixty days; and for the third offence he shall be fined not
less than fifty dollars and be imprisoned not less than thirty nor
more than ninety days.

142. Upon complaint or information of any credible person, on
oath, that he knows, or has reason to believe and does believe,
that any person is violating the provisions of section 139 of this
article, and that some person named has knowledge of such
offence, any justice of the peace of the district, or of Dame's
Quarter district, may summon such person before him, together
with the party accused, and require him to give testimony in the
premises, and upon his refusal, he shall be fined or imprisoned, or
both, as provided in the preceding section.

143. The sheriff, his deputies, or any constable of the county,
shall serve any process directed to him under the preceding sec-
tion, and shall arrest any person whom he may find violating the
provisions of section 139 of this article, and shall seize all liquors
he shall find kept in violation of the provisions thereof, and shall
bring the party offending before some justice of the peace of
said district, who shall fine the party if convicted as herein-
before directed, and the liquor seized shall be destroyed.

144. If any officer shall refuse or neglect to perform the
duties required in the preceding section, he shall be adjudged
to have violated the provisions of the 139th section of this
