112. In all cases where tenants reside on lands through which
public roads pass, on which there shall be gates, the tenants may
pay the taxes thereon, and shall be allowed the same by their
landlords in their rent upon production of the collector's receipt
th«refor.
SCHOOLS.
113. The Orphans' Court of Queen Anne's county, on the
third day of May annually, or at their next meeting thereafter,
shall appoint five persons, one from each election district, com-
missioners of the school fund of said county.
114. All vacancies which shall occur in the said board during
the year for which they were appointed shall be filled by said
court from the election district in which such vacancy shall
occur.
115. If at any time the Orphans' Court shall fail to appoint at
the time prescribed in this article, the said commissioners shall
continue in office until their successors are appointed.
116. The Treasurer of Maryland shall annually pay to the said
board of commissioners the portion of the school fund to which
said county may be entitled.
117. The commissioners of the school fund shall have power,
in their discretion, to organize new school districts in said county,
shall number and describe the same in writing, and deliver the
number and description thereof to the clerk of the Circuit Court
for said county, to be by him recorded among the records of his
office.
118*. The taxable inhabitants of each primary school district
of said county (except in the Centreville district) shall annually,
on some day in the month of October or November in each year,
upon ten days' notice by advertisements set up at the moet public
places in the districts by the trustees or five taxable inhabitants
of the district, elect three trustees for such district, who shall,
before- they proceed to act as trustees, take an oath before a
justice of the peace of the county diligently and faithfully to
discharge the duties of their office; and they shall deliver to the
commissioners of the school fund a certificate from the said justice
of their qualification.
