722 PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY. [ART. 16.

48. Each county commissioner shall be entitled to two dollars
a day for each day's attendance upon the duties of his office,
and mileage at the rate of five cents per mile on all distances
not exceeding twenty miles from his residence to the county
town, computed by the shortest public road.

49. The county commissioners, at their first meeting after
each election, shall determine the amount of mileage each shall
be entitled to receive.

50. They shall annually appoint a clerk; and in case of
vacancy in the office of clerk, shall fill such vacancy at their
first meeting thereafter.

51. The said clerk, before entering upon the duties of his
office, shall, before any one of said commissioners, take an oath
that as the clerk to the county commissioners of Prince George's
county, he will diligently and faithfully, without partiality or
prejudice, discharge the duties of his office to the best of his
skill and judgment.

52. He shall also execute a bond to the State of Maryland,
to be approved by said commissioners, in the penalty of one
thousand dollars, conditioned for the faithful performance of
the duties imposed upon him by law; which bond shall be
recorded in the office of the clerk of the Circuit Court for said
county.

53. He shall exhibit the books, levies and papers in the office
of said commisBioners to any person applying to view the same,
and make copies or extracts thereof without charge.

54. He shall be entitled to an annual salary of three hundred
dollars, to be paid by the county commissioners.

55. He shall be entitled to twenty-five cents each, for making
out and delivering to the sheriff, certificatea of the appoint-
ment of trustees of the poor.

CRIER.

56. The crier of the Circuit Court for Prince George's county
shall receive eighty dollars a year, in lieu of all other compensa-
tion and,fees.
