66. The clerk of the market shall be allowed a reasonable
compensation for his services, not exceeding fifty dollars a year,
to be fixed by the said commissioners and levied as other town
charges.
67. The market days in Cambridge shall be Tuesdays and
Saturdays, subject, however, to be changed by the said commis-
sioners, and all provisions brought to said town for sale shall be
taken to the market house and there sold or offered for sale from
any time in the morning until twelve o'clock at noon; but fish
or Oysters, or beef by the quarter or larger quantity, pork by the
hog, any kind of grain, flour or bread, butter in firkins or other
vessels exceeding twenty pounds net weight, cheese or beef or
pork in barrels or larger casks, live cattle, sheep and hogs
brought to said town may be sold anywhere therein.
68. If any free inhabitant of said town shall buy any article of
provisions of any person bringing or having brought to the said
town any provisions for sale, (except the articles excepted in the
preceding section,) either upon market days or upon any other
day during market hours, at any other place than the market
house, he shall forfeit the sum of five dollars.
69. If any person shall sell to any free inhabitant of said town,
or to any slave of such inhabitant, any article of provision ex-
cept as aforesaid, which such person may be bringing or may
have brought or sent to said town, or within two miles thereof,
for sale, either upon the stated market days or on any other days
during market hours, he shall forfeit the sum of two dollars and
fifty cents.
70. If any person shall butcher any cattle, sheep or bogs in
or hear the said market house, he shall forfeit the sum of two
dollars and fifty cents.
71. If any person shall put any mare, horse or gelding into or
under the said market house, he shall forfeit the sum of seventy-
five cents.
72. No person shall keep or raise any geese or swine within
the limits of said town, except in pens or enclosures, and if any
geese or swine be found going at large therein, the same shall be
forfeited for the benefit of said town, and the bailiff shall seize,
impound and sell the same at public sale, and the money arising
