school or schools within its jurisdiction, and moreover they shall
be and are hereby invested, in their corporate capacity, with the
title, care and custody of all school houses, school house sites,
school libraries, apparatus or other property, belonging or which
may hereafter belong to the respective school districts of the
county, now, or which may hereafter be organized, with full
power to control the same in such manner as the said board may
judge will best subserve the cause of education; and when in the
opinion of the said board any school house or school house site has
become unnecessary, it may sell and convey the same in the
'corporate name of the said board, such conveyance to be exe-
cuted by the president and secretary of said board, and shall
pay the avails of such sale over to the treasurer, for the benefit
of schools; and all conveyances of real estate which may be
made to said board, shall be to said board in their corporate
name, and to their successors in office.

148*. The said Board of Commissioners of Public Schools are
authorized and required to hold regular sessions on the third
Monday of January, April, July and October, in each year, in
the usual place of meeting of the county commissioners, or some
other place in the town of Cumberland convenient for the
transaction of any business that may be necessary in relation
to the subject of schools, with power to adjourn from time to
time, to hold special meetings at any other time, whenever it
may be deemed necessary for the transaction of business as
aforesaid; and in the absence of the secretary, the said board
may appoint one of its own number to serve temporarily as •
secretary.

149*. The said school commissioners shall appoint in each
school district three discreet men, who shall have the manage-
ment and control of the schools in their proper district which
may be established therein under this article, with full power
with respect to such schools to pay teachers, and when directed
by the board, may build, repair and furnish the necessary school
houses, purchase or lease sites therefor, or rent suitable school
rooms, and make all other necessary provisions relative to such
schools as the said board may deem right and proper, and do
and perform all such other duties as the said board may prescribe
in relation to the management and supervision of the different
schools and the educational interests of their proper districts;

and whenever it shall be necessary to employ a teacher for any
school in any school district, it shall be the duty of said directors
