at the expense of the corporation, and a copy thereof under the
seal of the county commissioners shall be evidence.

71. The bailiff shall collect all taxes levied by the commis-
sioners, and pay the same to the treasurer, and if any person
shall refuse or neglect to pay any taxes, or any fines and for-
feitures due by him, the bailiff may collect the same in the same
manner as county taxes, and if there be any real or personal
property in Denton the owner of which resides in another
county, the commissioners may order the bailiff to sell so much
thereof as will pay the sums due by such owner for taxes, fines
or forfeitures; but before selling the property of any non-re-
sident the bailiff shall call on the tenant, if any, on the property,
to pay the taxes, fines, penalties or forfeitures due by the owner;

and on his failure to pay the same the commissioners shall give
notice in some newspaper, if any, printed in the county where
the owner resides, at least three weeks before the day of sale,
and at three public places in said county, of the time and place
of sale.

72. The commissioners shall apply all money collected by
them from taxes, fines, penalties and forfeitures to defray the
expenses of regulating and improving the streets, lanes and
alleys, pumps and wells in said village, in such manner as they
shall deem most expedient, and to paying their clerk and the
bailiff of said village such compensation as they may deem
reasonable.

73. The public ground in Denton on which the market house
and lodge house stand, and all the public ground between the
market house and lodge house on Market street, and all the
public ground between the market house and lodge house on
Second street, and twenty feet of public ground immediately
contiguous to the west side and north end of said market house
and lodge house, is vested in said commissioners and their suc-
cessors; Provided, the said commissioners and the officers of
Washington. Lodge shall not erect thereon any other than public
buildings for the use of said village.

74. The members of Washington Lodge No. fifty-nine, and
their successors, shall hold and enjoy the rooms erected by them
over the market house, without any let or hindrance from any
person whatever, and if at any time the said lodge shall cease to
exist, the said commissioners may rent the rooms occupied as
