and be subject to the laws, regulations and ordinances applicable
to public streets,, lanes or alleys, or parts thereof, in said city.

844. The mayor and city council shall have fall power to re-
pave and renew the curb stones on any street, lane or alley, or
any part thereof, whenever the owner of two-thirds of the pro-
perty on such street, lane or alley, or any part of such street,
lane or alley, shall make application to the mayor to have the
same re-paved and the curb stones renewed.

845. The expense of such re-paving and renewal of curb stones
shall be paid in the following manner: the mayor and city council
shall pay the whole expense of re-paving any street, lane or alley,
crossing the street, lane or alley to be re-paved, and one-third of
the expense of the renewal of curb stones, and the remaining
two-thirds of the expense shall be paid by the owners of property
in proportion to the number of front feet which they respectively
own on such street, lane or alley, or on such part thereof as shall
be re-paved.

846. The curb stones shall be of such description as shall be
specified in the application to the mayor.

847. They shall, whenever application shall be made to the
mayor for re-paving any street, lane or alley, have full power to
assess upon the owners of property on the street, lane or alley,
or part thereof to be re-paved, their proportional part of the
expenses thereof, and to collect the same in like manner as other
taxes are collected.

848. A tenant for ninety-nine years, or for ninety-nine years
renewable forever, and the executor or administrator of such
tenant and a mortgagee in possession, shall be deemed and taken
as an owner for the purpose of laying and collecting such tax.

849. The guardian of an infant owner shall have full power on
behalf of his ward to make application for re-paving.

850. The mayor and city council may pass any ordinance or
ordinances necessary and proper to carry into effect the powers
vested in them in relation to re-paving streets.

851. They may, on the application of a majority of feet in
front of any private wharf, dock, street, lane or alley, cause the
