c&nts for every hogshead so landed, and shall give a receipt for
the same, and shall cause the said tobacco to be safely lodged
and delivered to the owner or his order, when required, without
any fee or reward.

523*. If any note of any lessee be lost, mislaid or destroyed,
the person entitled to receive the tobacco by virtue of such
note may make oath before a justice of the peace of the county
wherein he resides, .or if he resides in the city of Baltimore,
before a justice of the peace for said city, to the mark, number
and date of such note, to whom and when payable, and for what
quantity of tobacco .the same was given, that such note is lost,
mislaid or destroyed, and that such person at the time such note
was lost, mislaid or destroyed was lawfully and justly entitled
to receive the tobacco therein mentioned; and shall take a cer-
tificate thereof from such justice to the lessee who signed the
note and lodge the same with him, and the said lessee shall
deliver to the said person a new note, with marks, numbers,
weights and dates corresponding with the former note, and shall
thereby be discharged from all actions and demands on account
of such former note.

524*. If any person shall be convicted of taking a false oath
as to any of the matters mentioned in the preceding section, he
shall suffer as in cases of wilful and corrupt perjury, and shall
forfeit and pay to the party injured fifty dollars for every hun-
dred pounds of tobacco specified in such certificates, and so in
proportion for a less quantity; and any person selling or pro-
ducing a forged certificate of the oath mentioned in the preced-
ing section, knowing the same to be forged, shall, upon conviction,
be fined a sum not exceeding one hundred and fifty dollars, and
shall pay to the party injured fifty dollars for every hundred
pounds of tobacco specified in such certificate.

525*. No person shall be entitled to receive a new note in lieu
of any note lost, destroyed or mislaid, unless he shall advertise
the same within twenty days after such note is first discovered
to be lost, mislaid or destroyed, at the same warehouse at which
such tobacco was inspected.

526*. If any hogshead of tobacco shall be brought to any
warehouse for inspection, and the inspector shall refuse to pass
the same, and the owner or other person bringing such tobacco
will undertake to pick and separate the good from the bad, the
