518*. The several inspectors shall, when the tobacco by them
inspected shall not be clear of trash, but shall be in good order
and merchantable, certify the same to the lessee, who shall then
only give a receipt therefor, expressing the number, gross, tare
and net weight of the same, and that the tobacco is of second
quality; and shall also mark the number, gross, tare and net
weight thereof on the head and bilge of the hogshead with
marking irons; and the said receipt shall be obligatory upon the
said lessee for a delivery of the said tobacco.
519*. Each lessee shall carefully enter in a book to be kept by
him for that purpose alone, every hogshead of tobacco which
shall be certified to him by an inspector to be inspected, and
which shall be received and marked by him, and the quantity
thereof, mark and warehouse, number, gross, tare and net weight
of all such tobacco; and shall send with every load of tobacco a
manifest thereof, or a separate manifest for each hogshead, if re-
quired, containing the numbers, gross, tare and net weight, and
marks of every hogshead of tobacco, the day and year in which
inspected, and when the same shall bo the growth of this State,
the words " Growth of Maryland," to be delivered to the master
of the vessel on board of which the same shall be put for ex-
portation ; in all of which manifests the number of hogsheads
shall be expressed in letters, and not in figures.
520*. If the tobacco is intended to be put on board of several
vessels, the lessee shall deliver separate manifests for the hogs-
heads intended to be put on each vessel.
521*. Every master of a vessel shall produce to and lodge with
the collector of the Port of Baltimore the manifests delivered
to him by the lessee some time before the clearance of the ves-
sel, and if the vessel in which such tobacco was" intended to be
put be so full as not to be capable of stowing all the tobacco
contained in such manifest, or if by springing a leak, or other
accident, it may be necessary to reland the same, in such cases
it shall be lawful to ship the said tobacco, or any part thereof,
on board any other vessel, if the owner thereof shall think fit.
522*. If there be no vessel to receive the said tobacco, the mas-
ter of the vessel for which the same was manifested may put
the said tobacco in the nearest warehouse to the place where the
said vessel shall ride, and the lessee of such warehouse shall
receive from the person relanding the same, the sum of forty
