966 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 20,

A bill entitled an Act to provide for the sale of a portion
of the furniture in the Executive Mansion,
Which was read a first time.

Mr. Nelson, Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture,
reported favorably

The Senate bill entitled an Act to add an additional Ar-
ticle to the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, to be
entitled "commission merchants," relative to their responsi-
bilities for boxes, bags, baskets, chests and barrels in which
fruit or vegetables may be sent to them.

Which was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed
for a third reading.

Also, reported

The Senate hill entitled an Act to organize and regu-
late the department oi labor and agriculture pursuant to the
10th Article of the Constitution,

Said bill being upon a second reading,

On motion of Mr. Nelson,
Was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Brown, Chairman of the Committee on Inspections.
reported favorably

A bill entitled an Act to repeal sections 495 to 551 inclusive,
of the Code of Public Local Laws for Baltimore city, Article
4, under the head of Tobacco, as amended and re-enacted by
the Acts of Assembly of 1864, chapter 346, 1865, chapter
194, and 1867, chapter 368, and to re-enact the same with
amendments.

Which was read a first time.
Also, reported favorably

The bill entitled an Act providing for the appointment
of Inspectors of Lime for the city of Baltimore, with pro-
posed amendments.

Said bill being upon a second reading.
Amendments proposed:

Amend section 5 by striking out in line 1 the words "upon
request;" strike out in line 2 the word "any" and insert
all; insert between the words "lime" and "in" the words
sold or delivered ; add after the word "casks" the following:
wagons or carts when the original bulk has been broken ;
strike out in line 3 the words "at whose request the inspec-
tion is made," and insert the word purchase ; insert in line
4, between the words "receive" and "six," the words from
the dealers.

Add at the end of section 6 the following : And one cent
per bushel for all other quantities, less than a car load, re-
