JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 19,

The bill, as amended, was then read a second time, and
ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

The bill entitled an Act to repeal and re-enact with amend-
ments the 2d section of the Act of 1867, chapter 341, entitled
an Act supplementary to an Act entitled an Act to provide
for the general valuation and assessment of property in this
State, passed at the extra session of the General Assembly in
the year 1866, chapter 157,

Being upon a second reading.

Mr. Stewart, of Dorchester, submitted the following
amendment:

Section 2, line 4, strike out the words, "and held and
owned by the United States."

Which was rejected.

Mr. Bond, of Calvert, submitted the following amend-
ment :

Section 2, line 17, strike out the words "all mortgages."

The question being on adopting the amendment,

Mr. Harden demanded the yeas and nays.

The demand being sustained,
