The Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal chapter 156,
passed January session, 1867, entitled an Act to repeal sec-
tions 5 and 8, of an Act passed January session, 1864, chap-
ter 15, entitled an Act to aid and encourage enlistments into
the Maryland regiments in the service of the United States,
and also to repeal sections 4 and 5, of an Act passed January
session, 1865, chapter 33, entitled an Act to provide bounty
f'or soldiers entering the service of the United States, to fill
the quotas of Maryland, under the call of the President of
the United States, of December, 1864, and under future calls.
Said bill being upon a second reading.
On motion of Mr. Nicolai,
The further consideration thereof was postponed, and the
hill made the order of the day for Thursday, 19th instant.
Also, favorably
The Senate hill entitled an Act to amend an Act passed Janu-
ary session, 1865, chapter 33, entitled an Act to provide bounty
for soldiers entering the service of the United States, to fill
the quotas of Maryland, under the call of the President of
the United States of 19th December, 1864, and under future
calls, by amending and re-enacting sections 4, 5, and 6,
which were repealed, or intended to be repealed, by the Act
of 1867, chapter 156,
With proposed amendments,
Said bill being on its second reading.
Amendments proposed:
Amend section 9, line 3, by striking out the words " Janu-
ary, 1869," and substituting therefor, the words September.
1868.
Add additional section after section 9, as follows :
And be it enacted, That the Treasurer be and he is hereby
authorized from the proceeds of any sales of bonds which
may be made under the provisions of this Act, to reimburse
the Treasury for such advances from the general revenue ac-
ruing from taxes or other sources as have been appropriated
rom time to time towards the payment of bounties, the same
to be applied to the general wants of the Treasury.
