TUESDAY, March 17, 1868.

The House met, and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Father Burke.

Present at the call of the roll the following members :

Messrs. Stewart, (Speaker,) Loker, Coad, Boyer, Beck,
Hammond, Iglehart, Deale, Bond, of Calvert, Mitchell,
Chapman, Nicolai, Slingluff, Montague, Poteet, Holmes,
Biddison, Rose, Lowe, Corbin, Percy, Stewart, of Dorchester,
Davis, of Cecil, Touchstone, Richards, Keech, Williams, Sud-
ler, Legg, Holloway, Smith, of Worcester, Dutrow, Weuner,
Bowlus, Maynard, Silver, Nelson, Vandiver, Brown, Hub-
bard, Sanner, Wentz, Rohb, Morse, Blake, Latrobe, Smith,
of Baltimore city, Bond, of Baltimore city, Colton, Mullin,
Chaisty, McElroy, Harig, Markland, Marshall, Conway,
Rohrer, Riggs, Offutt, Conley, McCulloh, Devecmon, Trim-
hie, Hall, Davis, of Carroll, Jordan, Harden, Clark,
Fooks—69.

The Speaker laid before the House the petition of Sabret
Harryman, a soldier of the war of 1812, asking a continuance
of his pension.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city, presented a memorial from
34 citizens of Somerset county, praying that provision be
made for the education of the children of the colored popula-
tion of the State.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Educa-
tion.

Mr. Jordan presented a petition from Robert B. Varden,
a soldier of the war of 1812 and 1814, asking a pension.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Clark presented the petition of Dr. Augustus Riggs,
and 40 citizens of Howard county, praying the passage of a
law creating the office of Treasurer for said county.

Which was read and referred to Messrs. Clark, Jones and
Worthington.

Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city, presented a memorial from
23 citizens of Kent county, praying that provision be made
for the education of the colored population of the State.
